6.6 Adventure Capital of Thailand

If you are looking for an awesome adventure, Phuket is one of the adventure capitals of Thailand. One of the main attractions includes taking a ferry over to the Phi Phi Islands which is filled with natural beauty such as white sandy beaches, turquoise blue waters, sheer cliffs, and interesting rock formations.

Phi Phi Island
Phi Phi Island consists of six small islands and is located 46 km south of Phuket. The island consists of fine sandy beaches, crystal clear water, and a laid-back lifestyle.

Background

Phuket is located in the south-west coast of Thailand in the Adaman Sea and is one of the country's largest islands. There are 40 beaches in Phuket and almost every beach has its bit of nightlife that is unique and active. Thai is the official language of Thailand but most tourist operators speak proficient English.

Attractions

The best time to visit Phuket is between November and April when weather conditions are ideal. The months between May and October are monsoon season. One of the biggest safety concerns are the dangerous tides and undertows at the beach during monsoon season. It is important to pay attention to warnings and posted beach flags. Some of the best attractions in Phuket include:
  • Patong Beach. This beach is a bustling hub of activity and you can find plenty of shopping and activity to keep you entertained.
  • Kata Beach. This beach is touristy but more peaceful than Patong. The beach is broad with soft, white sand and decent snorkeling spots. They also have shake or snack stalls and restaurants in walking distance.
  • Karon Beach. This beach is 3.5 kilometers long with golden sand and a sapphire sea. It is a beautiful spot for a swim. Restaurants and resorts are spread out opposite the beach.
  • Phuket Town. This town lies on the southeastern coast of the island. There are many hotels, restaurants, massage parlors, and other attractions.
  • Island Boat Tours. You can sign up for an island tour to discovery stunning seascape surrounding Phuket. The eight-hour Phuket to Phi Phi Islands Tour takes you to Ko Phi Phi and Maya Bay beach. An expert guide, transportation, food, and refreshments are included.
  • Diving and Snorkeling. The waters offer some of the best diving and snorkeling in Thailand. Visibility and water temperature are good and you can see anything from colorful corals to seahorses and whale sharks.
  • Phuket Big Buddha. The Phuket Big Buddha is one of the island's most distinctive landmarks. The statute was constructed in 2004 and is a peaceful spot to take time out from your day.
  • Wat Chalong. Wat Chalong is the most beautiful of all 29 temples. The temple is dedicated to two highly respected monks and you can see life-sized wax models of them and other figures.
  • Phuket Trickeye Museum. This interactive 3D art gallery allows you look as though you are part of more than 95 paintings created by clever Korean artists.
  • Sirinat National Park. The park sits on the island's northwest coast and is largely made up of marine areas and four relatively unspoiled beaches.

Food

Tom Yum Goong
Tom yum goong has distinct hot and sour flavors with fragrant spices. It is made with lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, lime juice, fish sauce, and crushed red chili peppers.
Thai food is famous all around the world. It is not only popular for its distinct and strong flavors, but it is also relatively healthy. According to Healthline, the traditional diet of Thailand features lots of colorful vegetables, herbs and spices, and the meals feature a good balance of macronutrients. The food in Phuket is generally spicier than the rest of Thailand. Some popular dishes include tom yum goong (spicy and sour prawn soup), pad thai, kuay tiew (noodle soup), som tam (papaya salad), kao phad (fried rice), and many more. Thai food includes a combination of sweet, salty, sour, and bitter which balance together to give you that distinctive taste of Thailand.

Overall, Phuket is a beautiful place to visit because of the many beaches, islands to explore, snorkeling, diving, and of course the food is delicious. Phuket also has no shortage of luxury hotels and you can also immerse yourself in the Thai culture and learn Muay Thai at a boxing gym. There are also several spots where you can enjoy a cocktail on the stylish and exclusive rooftop bars. The ambiance is sophisticated tropical cool with fine wines and sunset sessions. Phuket is full of endless charms, sweeping stretches of white sand, and clear turquoise waters.
